A crack on a window quickly happened. To avoid having to pay the bill out of your pocket, you should check whether your auto insurance contract offers glass breakage coverage. What does it cover? Answers.
A small pebble has fallen on your windshield and you end up with a crack. It is in such a situation that the Glass breakage guarantee comes into play. But do you know which glass elements are affected? It depends on your auto insurance .
First of all, this guarantee is not offered if you have taken out third-party insurance. To benefit from it, you must have opted for an All Risks insurance contract . It covers damage to your windshield, side windows, rear window and non-opening glass roof.
This is not always the case, but it can be extended to other glazed equipment.
Support for repair and replacement
The glass breakage guarantee therefore covers the cost of repairing or replacing the glass surfaces of your car. Only a windshield can possibly be repaired but under certain conditions:
-the impact must not be in the driver’s field of vision
-it should be 4cm away from the edges of the windshield
– its diameter must not exceed 3 cm.
On the other hand, the side windows and the rear window cannot benefit from a repair, they must be replaced.
Glass breakage and deductible
Depending on the insurers, this guarantee may be accompanied by a deductible, the amount of which varies. If you have one provided for in your contract, part of your expenses will not be reimbursed to you in certain situations.
Please note in certain insurance contracts, the Glass breakage guarantee takes into account the cause of the loss. Thus a theft or an act of vandalism are not taken into account.
Be sure to check the clauses of your contract so as not to have any unpleasant surprises during your compensation claim.
